Men’s & Women’s Singles 2023

Andy Limbrick & Cassie Stewart-Le Gallais first Champions of 2023

The first of this year’s Island Championships took place at Carrefour Terrains on Saturday 13th May. The Men’s Singles and this year for the first time, a separate Women’s Singles event, were sponsored by Integritas Wealth Partners & Snap.

24 players entered the Men’s event, and after the preliminary rounds, the top two in each of four groups went through to the main competition and the third & fourth placed, into the plate competition.

In the plate quarter finals, Geoffroy Buffetrille, Ross Payne, Alan Lahiffe & Mat Scholefield, went through after beating Ross Churchill, Andy Bellamy-Burt, Toby Northern & Keith White respectively.

In the semi-finals, Ross beat Geoffroy & Mat lost to Alan. The third place went to Geoffroy, beating Mat 13-9 and Ross Payne took the trophy, winning over Alan Lahiffe by 13-10.

Plate Competition – Geoffroy – 3rd, Ross Champion & Alan runner-up

In the Main event, the quarter-finalists were Brian Harris, Andy Limbrick, Matt Pinel & Jake Romeril who went through at the expense of Paul Waters, Callum Stewart, Kevin Daly & Neil Selby respectively.

In the semi-finals, Andy Limbrick had a comparatively easy win over Brian Harris 13-2 whilst Jake Romeril just edged Matt Pinel 13-10.

The third place went to Brian with a close win over Matt, 13-11 and Andy took the trophy, beating Jake 13-6.

Main Competition – Runner-Up Jake, Champion Andy & Third Brian

In the Women’s competition, eleven players competed in two groups and the top eight went through to the quarter finals, where Cassie Stewart-Le Gallais, Nicky Maindonald, Jean Stewart & Lorna Limbrick went through against Wendy Ritzema, Rose Chappell, Vanessa Nash & Margaret Robinson respectively.

In the semi-finals, Cassie beat Lorna 13-6 and Nicky lost to Jean 10-13. Nicky won the third place play off against Lorna 13-8 and Cassie won the daughter/mother battle 13-7.

Women’s Competition – Runner-up Jean, Champion Cassie & third Nicky

The next event will be the Men’s & Women’s Triples, to be held at Jersey Petanque Club on Saturday 10th June.
