Development

In June 2021, The JPA appointed a Youth Development Officer and Robin Stockton took this role. Since then, there has been huge progress in bringing the sport of petanque to young people.

During the summer of 2022, coaching sessions were delivered at Haute Vallee and Le Rocquier Schools. An application to the Jersey Community Foundation for a grant to build terrains at Les Quennevais School and Haute Vallee was successful and a terrain has been established at Haute Vallee. Plans are in place to build the second terrain at Les Quennevais. The JPA are very grateful for the support they have received from the Community Foundation.

A terrain already exists at Le Rocquier and there is another next to Grainville School. Contact has been made with these four schools and the four petanque clubs to “twin” each school with a club with a view to introducing petanque on a formal basis at each school in the 2023 Spring Term. The support from both the schools and the clubs has been encouraging. This will hopefully lead to an inter-school competition in the 2023 Summer Term.
