European Medal for LPC

Liberation PC take third place in Federation Cup

– Liberation Petanque Club are the first Jersey Club to win a medal in the European Cup for Clubs.

After the preliminary round saw them into the second tier competition, the Federation Cup, they won their first game against Croatia 16-10. They then met Lithuania in the quarter finals and two great triples wins gave them victory by 20-11 and a place in the semi-finals against Denmark. Unfortunately the Danes, who went on to win the Federation cup, proved too strong and won 16-2.

However, the team came away with a bronze medal, the first in this competition and the best that any Jersey club has performed so far.

The victorious Liberation Club team – (L to R) back row – Alec Stewart, Andy Bellamy-Burt & Gary Cowburn; front row – Ross Churchill, Jean Stewart, captain Toby Northern, Wendy Ritzema, Laurent Pellaton & Geoffroy Buffetrille
