Carreau Le Crapaud Knockout Cup

St Brelade bid to Retain CLeC Cup

The final of the 2025 Carreau Le Crapaud Knockout Cup took place at the Grouville terrains on Thursday 16th October in sunny, if chilly weather.

The holders, St Brelade took on the 2023 winners, St Saviour, in what proved to be an extremely close match with, by the end, only three points separating the teams.

In the first round of doubles, Mike Yates & Steve Pallett (St Brelade) had an easy win over Karen Bougeard & Tony Morton (St Saviour) 13-1. In the other two games, St Brelade struggled and were behind for most of both games, before Judy Dove & Dennis Le Mercier (St B) beat Rob Birch & Colin Floyd 13-11 and Joy Hart & Kevin Daly (St B) eventually won over Jean & Alex Stewart 13-10.

In both the doubles and triples, St Brelade found themselves with a real fight on their hands, with Joy Hart & Mike Yates losing to Jean & Alex Stewart 9-13 and the triples of Judy, Dennis & Steve never making an impression and going down 2-13 to Colin Floyd, Tony Morton & Jim Waddell.

With points important in the event of a 3-3 draw, the 13-1 to St Brelade and 13-2 to St Saviour virtually cancelled each other out, so the singles was going to be crucial. Rob Birch (St Saviour) took on Kevin Daly for St Brelade and the two were neck and neck all the way to 12 all, when Kevin just edged Rob to take the last point, the game and give St Brelade the win 4-2, retaining the trophy.
